In "Dimelo @," La Nueva Link speaks with different Latinx creatives / professionals to highlight their contributions, work and get them on your radar. Up next, a conversation with a Digital Marketing reina, Karina Alexandra Alvarez.

Between NYC and LA, Karina has worn multiple hats within the music industry. From helping independent artists get their music heard on major DSPs, assisting in the creation of marketing plans that have lead top Latin artists to global success, to now working in Digital Marketing at Vevo, there’s no stopping the hustle. With her Salvadorian and Colombian roots as the main source of her inspiration, she’s excited to play a role in La Nueva Link, learn and grow with other Latinx professionals. This mujer has been co-leading our social media efforts, bringing her expertise and special touch to la mesa to elevate LNL.

  • Job Title: Digital Marketing

  • Company: Vevo

  • Side Hustle: LNL Social Team

  • Location:  New York, NY

LNL: Coming up in the industry, what helped guide you and keep you focused?

K.A: My family - 100%!! As someone who works in the music industry with a ton of latin artists, I feel super connected to my roots. Although my family doesn’t really understand what I do on a daily basis, I know they’re proud that I’m representing la cultura and that keeps focused and motivated!

LNL: What can you tell me about your Latinidad and the workplace?

Sometimes you are a minority in the workplace but you can never let that stop you and your goals. If you want it, échale ganas!

LNL: What’s the one bit of wisdom you can share for rising professionals?

K.A: It doesn’t matter what starting position you are in, show them you have a place en la mesa.

LNL: What are you looking forward to the most as part of LNL?

K.A: I recently moved back to NYC from Los Angeles and  I am excited to meet new people and create connections within the Latinx community here on the east coast. I’ve never been a part of anything like this and I can’t wait to empower each other to great achievements!

LNL: Ok, now for a trick question, NY vs. LA, who takes the W?

I get asked this question A LOT and it's always tough to answer but I'm going to have to say NY takes the W. Moving to Los Angeles got me out of my comfort zone and it made me learn big life lessons. It's the first time I was working at a job within the digital marketing world and my Latinidad was a huge advantage in my career. BUT NEW YORK IS HOME. It's where my familia is which is my biggest inspiration and motivation. It's where I grew up and first got inspired to work in the music industry and first started making moves. There's something about New York that makes you tougher and work harder and the outcome is just more rewarding. I don't regret moving to Los Angeles at all (except maybe when I start craving un sope from the best food truck on Sunset Blvd. in Echo Park) but i definitely don't regret moving back home to New York. Without that decision, i probably wouldn't have been part of LNL!

LNL: We have to get you some NY sopes! Lastly what’s a phrase that inspires and empowers you?

K.A: Ponte las pilas!
